Version History

Keep every version, and let people go back.

involved Data & Content

What it adds

Track changes to a record over time, with a diff and a restore.

What your agent is told to do

4
  1. 1

Record a version on each meaningful change, capturing what changed, who changed it, and when.

  2. 2

Show a readable diff between versions — a raw JSON dump is not a feature.

  3. 3

Let users restore a previous version, and record the restore as a new version rather than rewriting history.

  4. 4

Prune or archive old versions so the table doesn't grow without bound.

Edge cases it handles

5
  • Do not create a version when nothing actually changed.
  • A deleted user must still be attributable — snapshot their display name.
  • Version history must respect the same permissions as the record.
  • Large fields make versions expensive; store diffs rather than full copies where it matters.
  • Restoring must not resurrect references to records that no longer exist.

Definition of done

7
  • Every meaningful change creates a version with actor and timestamp.
  • No-op saves don't create versions.
  • Diffs are human-readable.
  • Restoring creates a new version rather than rewriting history.
  • History is permission-scoped and pruned over time.
  • The feature matches the existing design system.
  • No existing functionality is broken.

How it works

  1. 1

    Copy the link

Grab the Markdown instruction URL for this feature.

  2. 2

    Give it to your AI

Paste it into Claude Code, Cursor, v0, Lovable — whatever you build with.

  3. 3

    It inspects, then implements

Your agent reads your existing app first, then adds the feature to fit it.

Works with your stack

These instructions are written to adapt. They tell the agent to detect your framework, match your existing design system, and reuse what you already have — rather than assuming a particular stack.

Need it tighter than that? Customize the feature and tell it exactly what you're running.
